Quiz : I am located at the 12th district of Paris, I am one of the oldest markets in Paris with such a rich history that we say "every stone has its legend in the estuary of the revolution", some even called me "the second belly of Paris".

The answer...?

Aligre market of course !

Food markets are the heart of Parisian and French life. They are friendly places for sharing and tasting, and are very important in the French cuisine ! The markets awaken all our senses in front of the variety of products, their smells and colors, and the calls of merchants to catch visitors’ attention.

Aligre market, created before the French revolution, has managed to maintain a popular ambience where you encounter a sweet scent of old Paris. But its stalls filled with products from different origins will surely bring you to culinary escape. In a few minutes you can travel from North Africa to Bretagne, from Alsace to Italy and from Portugal to the West Indies ! This cultural diversity is the result of the successive migration flows, the Auvergnats (from Auvergne region in France), the Portuguese, the Spanish, the Italians and then the North Africans. This melting pot truly gives an energy to the market and the neighborhood !

Open everyday from Tuesday to Sunday, Aligre market consists of some parts :

- The Aligre street has food boutiques that are opened all day and food stands which leave at 1pm. Those shops are specialized in selling of fruits, vegetables and flowers in particular.

- A covered building “Beauvau market” dated from 1779, in which you can find traditional stands of butcher, "charcutier" (cured meats), cheesemongers and fishes.

- Finally, the Aligre square dedicated to flea markets and merchants of unusual objects (accessories, second-hand clothes...) complete the market.

Let's discover the attraction of the market through these few pictures !

This traditional food market is really a great place to enjoy the atmosphere of Parisian life !
